The BEST Moisturizer

Back several months ago I was looking for a new moisturizer that would actually penetrate my skin without leaving it feeling oily. I am also cheap. That means I can't justify spending even $20 of our budget on a face cream. It's just how I'm wired. During that time I just "happened" to read about good ol' fashioned olive oil being a great skin moisturizer. Then I remembered a passage of scripture where Jesus was talking about fasting. He told the people that they should put a little oil on their heads while they were fasting so as to not draw attention to the fact that that's what they were doing. *See Matthew 6:17-18. Then I remembered from history that the reason Jesus would say that was because oil has been used as a daily cosmetic for thousands of years. That was good enough for me to try it. So, I went to the kitchen cupboard, pulled out my bottle and gave it a shot. Let's just say I was instantly hooked. I don't keep it to my face, either. I had feet and elbows that would make a crocodile jealous. Not anymore! I had tried several options on my feet. I would put lotion on them, but that made my toes split. Ow! I went the Vaseline route. You know - slather them in Vaseline and then put socks on before bed. Somewhat effective. Kinda gross. And really, I just don't like to sleep in socks. Oh, but that glorious bottle of golden liquid has changed it all! Now when I get out of the shower it not only goes on my face, neck, arms and elbows - but I slather it on my legs, too. Then, just for good measure, I rub it into my feet and throw my socks on. It soaks right in and doesn't leave that goopy mess I got from Vaseline. I am proud to say that my tootsies are now soft and supple. Also, I had gotten a serious case of razor burn on my leg that had left me with problems for nearly a year at the time I began using the oil. Within no time my leg was completely healed up. This isn't a secret I've kept to myself, either. I tell everyone I know, "Try olive oil." Despite my declaring it's splendor from the roof top - I don't think many people have tried it.

This leads me to a really cool discovery. A few days ago a received a catalog from a very high end skin care company. As I'm flipping through the pages I come across this wonder product that "started it all" for the company. Let me just show you what it says.

THE GOOD OIL - If you thought you'd never put oil on your face, think again.

Remember when you were a teenager and you had your first skincare lesson? Oil, you were told is bad for you and makes you break out. But that oil myth has officially been debunked.

What's so great about oil, you ask? Oil gives skin softness, elasticity, and protection from harmful impurities and irritants, and as we age, our bodies produce less sebum, which results in dehydrated skin. The question should be - are we getting enough?...

Guess what this awesome product is. That's right. You are a Sharpie! Extra Virgin Olive Oil. It has absolutely nothing added to it. No aloe, vitamin E, peptides, alpha hydroxy acids..... Just plain old olive oil. They sell 1 fl. oz. in their catalog for $39. I pay $4 for a 17 fl. oz. bottle at Dollar General Market. That's a savings of $659!!!!!!

I find it curious that they called it the GOOD oil. James 1:17 says, "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." I think it's so amazing how God will lead us into every good thing if we just stay open to him. I could have shrugged off the thought of going to my kitchen cabinet and trying that bottle of EVOO. It is used for cooking, after all. But I would have missed out on all the benefits that something so simple would bring me. The benefits have not only been to my skin, but also to our budget. That $4 bottle of olive oil is much less expensive than the synthetic stuff I was using before with no results. Our Father gives us wisdom for every area of our lives and nothing is unimportant to him - even skin care. He did create a whole world of wonderful things to take care of our skin, homes and bodies, after all. The question is; "Are we willing to seek out and try out those things he made for us?" Actually, I think that when we begin to seek Him out, He's begins to reveal all these wonderful little secrets to us. At least that what He said in Matthew 6:33. "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." It's kind of like the game Hide and Seek. We seek Him and he shows us where all of the treasures are hidden. In Colossians 2:3 He told us that all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Christ. It's really an unfair advantage over the world if you think about it. BUT IT'S SO MUCH FUN!

  1. AWESOME tip and I am sooooo going to try this. Now, here is my question...Does it stink? I admit to my infatuation with skin care products is because they smell so good. I can't imagine walking around smelling like an olive. How do you smell, Pam??? Does your honey still cuddle??? Inquiring minds want to know before they go and bathe in evoo. *grin*

    1. I know that a lot of women have used it in their hair for ages. I use it as a hot oil treatment. However, my hair is really fine and I find that it's too heavy to use otherwise. I'm glad this is working for you. :-)
